Pekko

When we lost Joona we decided that we shall not have a new cat as long as Veera and Altti are with us. We thought it would be better to let them live their lives just as it has been so far. They were old so there were no need to introduce new family members into their lives. But Altti was very depressed when Joona has passed away. He refused to eat and went to dark quiet place and stayed there. We first though that it only lasts for few days but no - when it lasted more than a week we started to be really worried. Vet did not find anything wrong with him. So obviously he was just sad because of loosing his very best friend. He did not purr anymore. He lost some weight. And obviously he had decided to join Joona soon.

Our vet asked if we had thought about having a new kitten to keep Altti company. We had not but we started to talk about it. And then Minna started to look for announcements from internet. There were very few kittens available and if there were, quite often the answer was: "It would be cruel to have a kitten to keep company for old cat. Old cats need peace." But then Minna found one announcement and called there and she could have a little male kitten! So she called to her friend and they left immediately picking up that little one. And on the same monday the announcement was in internet Minna picked up Pekko from Pyhtaa.

When Minna carried home a small crate where Pekko was and Altti heared his little voice he came immediately to see what it was all about. And then he was sitting near Pekko and gently waited until he came to see him. And Altti went to eat well for the first time after Joona´s death! Next evening we had a speedful formula race going on! :-)

Altti is a smart boy and he know excatly how to play with Pekko. He was gentle and managed well even though Pekko was a tiny little one. He did not wrestle like he did with Joona but he was very careful. And he came to purr us when we woke up and had breakfast with us like he used to did. We got Altti back!! So for Altti is was a right decision to have a new kitten. And what about Veera then? Veera thinks that Pekko it ok as long as Pekko lets her to live her own life. And Pekko almost always does so. The only exception is when Veera is going to sleep. Pekko just has to jump behind her and touch her with his paw...and Veera hates that! When Veera looks at Pekko he dissapears immediately. But yet he has to try if he could manage to touch Veera every evening. Sometimes we think that they have that kind fo game going on because if Pekko misses Veera going to sleep Veera soon goes to eat a little and then she goes to sleep again. Maybe Pekko would come this time?! :-)

So the reason we got Pekko is because of Altti but we have not regret that we got him. He is the sweetest cat boy there can be! Pekko was born in 21st of November at 2006 and he has one sister and two brothers. He lived in Pyhtaa with his mom, dad, littermates, few dogs and owners. And then he moved to us. And it was obvious that he had been playing with dogs since he knew how to walk! He got used to our dogs immediately. And what about his name then. Pekko. It comes from a finnish movie by Timo Koivusalo. There is a character called Pekko and even though he is adult he lives with his mom. He is clever and kind and friendly but he also makes sure that justice always happens. He is also very independent. And we thought that our Pekko reminded from this movie character. And as a matter of fact he still does! Our Pekko is also independent, he still lets Mira to nurse him even though he is full grown cat. And he is kind and friendly. And calm.

When Pekko came his best friend was Altti. They played a lot together and they did basicly everything together. Pekko also loved to play with dogs, especially with Mira. But he also loved to play with all dogs which were visiting us. He teased them and if they were afraid of him at all he teased them even more! And he is still like that. He tests if a strange dog takes few steps backwards if he comes near. If it does he next time jumps towards it, if not he looses his intrest. He is not evil but he is full of jokes. And Mira has teached him to play so.

Then came Nuutti. Tiny little kitten. At first Pekko was singing and splitting over him but he get used to having him aroud within the first day. And he found out that he has the most wonderful friend to play with! Since that Pekko and Nuutti have been together almost all the time. They have succesfully ripped the wallpapers together, broke one carpet, one soffa and one bed.

And then Pekko has Mira! His adoption mom. Mira is the one Pekko cries after. And he thinks that Mira really is his mom. :-)

Pekko is brown / grey with black "tiger stripes". He has creme coloured chin and pink / black nose and not a single spot of white in his coat. He looks quite a lot like wild cats especially when he lifts all hair up. He is small and round shaped - a bit plump.

Pekko has some nicknames: Pekko-Petoeläin, Pekko-Peruskissa, Pekkis, Poko and Pekko the Beast.
